Hard Water Deposit stain treatments
They say our water in Osoyoos and the South Okanagan region has a high level of dissolved minerals...
I have been measuring water for years and have not come across any higher TDS readings than the water out of my Osoyoos tap. This mineral content has proven to be the bane to many a local resident and there is little we can do about it.
From irrigation systems to household plumbing to our gorgeous view windows the hard water deposits bring grief wherever they occur.
Depending on the severity of the stains on your glass I have a variety of options for getting them off safely. If the the spots are relatively new and just a light spattering I can almost ignore them by adding a small amount of safety acid to my regular window cleaning solution. These windows will come out like new after cleaning.
If the stains have built up over a year or more with regular soaking from sprinklers I will have to resort to more aggressive measures. When windows become this badly stained there is a chance they will not be fully recovered.
I use a more severe acid treatment for these thick white coatings on water stained glass and will often combine that with a firm razor blade scrape. I can only promise to improve windows in this condition and there is a risk of damage to the glass.
