Once I heard about cleaning windows high up while standing on the ground I had to know more. These complex water fed pole systems seemed to be a dream come true.
I spent 2 months studying every aspect of the new technique and did everything I could to bring the initial price down for buying the equipment. The poles are made of carbon fiber, a light weight yet strong material that comes at a cost of over $100 per pound. I currently own poles that will reach up to four floors high or 45ft.
The water filtration and delivery system is another major investment and with the Osoyoos hard water, extra levels of purification are necessary to bring the purity up to a useable level for window cleaning. In the end what we are looking for to achieve that "spot free rinse" effect is 0 parts per million total dissolved solids or 0ppm on a TDS meter. Essentially the water we use with a pole system is "empty" or can be considered the equivalent of distilled water.
After scrubbing and rinsing the window it can be left covered in drops of water that will evaporate in a few minutes leaving absolutely no trace behind. When proper scrubbing and rinsing technique is used the spot free drying works like a charm.
But once proper use of the pole is mastered there is still one issue that needs to be considered.
Water fed pole cleaning with windows that are cleaned on a regular basis
tends to be as good as any traditional tools window cleaning. But the
brush head and pure water scrub are not enough to thoroughly clean
spots on glass that are built up and crusted on over time.
To avoid problems I must
properly asses the windows before commencing work and take extra
measures when dealing with long term dirt buildup. A sudsy pre-wash with
the traditional window scrubber on a pole is often sufficient to
prepare the window to be cleaned to my high quality standards with the
pure water system.
